Confused about what a fanlisting is? Who Puffy Ami Yumi is? You've come to the right page
for answers myfriend.
What is a Fanlisting?
"A fanlisting is simply an online list of fans of a subject, such as a TV show, actor,
or musician, that is created by an individual and open for fans from around the world to
join. There are no costs, and the only requirements to join a fanlisting are your name
and country." -TFL.org
Who is Puffy Ami Yumi?
Puffy Ami Yumi (Puffy) is a J-Pop (Shibuya-kei genre) group who started up in Japan in 1995 and is compromised of
two exceptionally talented females, Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura.
When Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura began touring in the United States they ran into some
legal issues because of the name of their band. At the time their band was called
Puffy and that was how they were known as. Sean 'Puffy' Combs (Puff Daddy/P Diddy)
however seemed to be operating under the delusion that no one could use the name of Puffy
besides him. There was a bit of a legal battle and in the end in order to avoid continuous
legal battles Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura renamed their band as Puffy Ami Yumi.
Teen Titans Theme?
The English version of the opening song Teen Titans Theme was originally written
and produced by Andy Sturmer for the cartoon Teen Titans on Cartoon Network. Sturmer
and Glen Murakami wanted the cartoon's to be catchy and an attention grabber. They wanted
people to hear the song and automatically associate it with the show just as Superman's
theme is so well known. Sturmer had heard of the J-Pop band Puffy (known as Puffy Ami Yumi
in the US) and had liked their music and when he heard that they were here in the US
working on a US tour and creating their own cartoon (Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi) he jumped at
the chance to get them to sing the theme song.
Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura had so much fun producing the song that they wrote a Japanese
version of the song. The Japanese version can be heard alternatively as the opening
song on Cartoon Network as well. The Japanese version is not a direct translation of the
English one and is in fact quite different. Puffy Ami Yumi wrote the Japanese version in
order to "stir up some interest in the Japanese language" and to also "just have fun".
You can find both the English and Japanese full versions of the song as well as the
opening and ending television versions on their Nice (2003) cd.
