Quick Background:

When Rashel was five years old her Mother took her and her friend Timmy to the carnival for her birthday. Timmy and Rashel decided to head to the tubes to play, and while playing in the tubes the two children were seperated. Rashel, who had climbed ahead to test how the ropes of the web they were climbing handled, came back to where she had left Timmy to find him gone. She went off in search of him and eventually found him in a stranger's embrace. The stranger was a vampire who had taken Timmy and was feeding on him. Around this time her Mother stumbles into the tent that the three are at in search of the children and is killed by the vampire. Rashel runs away but is not fast enough to escape the vampire. Just as it looks as though the vampire is going to get Rashel as well she starts screaming to atract a crowd and the vampire is forced to flee.

Later that night while she is asleep at her Aunt Corrine's house the vampire tracks her down and sets fire to the house. Rashel barely makes it out of the house alive, her Aunt is killed in the fire. From this point on she is bounced around from foster home to foster home and she using the constant change of location to her advantage but hunting down vampires and killing them.

Now at the age of 17 Rashel is known by fellow vampire hunters and vampires as "The Cat" Using a bamboo back scratcher she carves four marks across the face of a vampire she has staked while repeating the ritual mantra This kitten has claws. Her mantra is derived from the nickname her Mother gave her as a child, "kitten", as well as a play on the relation of Vampires to bats, and herself (The Cat) to cats. It's a popculture reference to the relationship between Batman and Catwoman.

.xXx.

For fear of spoiling the book for those that might not have read it yet I'll refrain from summarizing the rest of the story. And merely go on to give a quick synopsis of the character.

Rahsel is a driven and determined young woman who has based her sole existence on hunting down vampires one by one until she can find the one who destroyed her life and robbed her of her childhood. His face is etched into her memory and she cannot let it go. Because of her knowledge of the existence of the Night World she is unable to really get along with those who don't believe in or know of it's existence. This causes a rift between her and the foster families that adopt her and ultimately causes them to pass her along.

Despite her hatred of the vampires and the fact that she garbs herself in a ninja's outfit Rashel is an honorable warrior. She has a hard time making a kill from behind where her opponent cannot see and later when given the oppurtunity to torture and interogate a vampire she would rather just stake him then dishonor herself and her ideals. She is unable to stake said vampire though because he is bound and unconcious, which again goes against her morals and honor code.
