Rumors & TheoriesIt happens with just about every new character who is introduced into a story where the main and primary supporting cast has been firmly established. Questions like: who are they really; what is their backstory; can they be trusted; and so on always abound. Of course, when the character introduced already has a slightly-suspicious background and manages to turn a few supposed-rules on their heads, well, it's safe to say that there will be even more questions and excitement raised!* Has new information been made available that should be taken into account with regards to this rumor? Perhaps you have something to add? Please feel free to drop me an email and tell me about it. All contributions and contributors will be credited. ^_^ Is There Another Uzumaki? Is She Kushina?
Almost as soon as the Mizukage was revealed fans began to speculate as to whether or not she
might be a relative of the Uzumaki clan and thus a living blood-relative of Uzumaki Naruto
and Kushina. The fact that the Godaime Mizukage has been revealed to have reddish-colored
hair and green eyes seems to give credence to this idea. The fact that Kishimoto has yet to
mention her name despite having already hinted that the Raikage is from the Yotsuki clan
and has stated that the Tsuchikage is named Oonoki is rather curious. Could the Godaime be
an Uzumaki? Is it possible that we at long last know what became of Uzumaki Kushina? Let's
take a look at what we know and go from there.
All that is known of the Uzumaki clan is that they were from a smaller country known as Whirlpool that was destroyed or absorbed roughly ten years or so, give or take, before the start of the story. It is known that Naruto's mother, Uzumaki Kushina, had red hair, was cheerful, talkative, a tomboy, and a kunoichi (female ninja) from the former Uzu no Sato (Land of Whirlpool) who came to Konoha. Jiraiya's phrasing seems to imply that Kushina was already a kunoichi (or in-training) when she came to Konoha. The fact that Jiraiya and Tsunade remember her as a child means that Whirlpool become no more roughly a decade before the start of series. It is implied that she was likely the last of the Uzumaki but never implicitly stated. And while the databooks and characters themselves state Kushina had red hair, no mention is given of her eyecolor. In the anime she has purplish-blue eyes but this is not necessarily canon. How the Land of Whirlpool became no more is not mentioned nor is the location of the former Land of Whirlpool given. It is possible that Whirlpool is now a part of Water Country (and is a much more logical assumption than the popular Iwa destroyed Whirlpool theory) and as such, any Uzumaki who still resided there could very well become shinobi of Kirigakure. If that is the case, then there is potential for the Godaime Mizukage to be an Uzumaki. Could she be Kushina as well? Well, the databooks are wonderfully ambiguous and do not implicity state that Kushina is actually dead so there is a possibility that she is alive and Kishimoto has a plan for her. But whether or not Kushina is the Godaime Mizukage is another matter entirely. It should be noted however that the Godaime Mizukage clearly weilds two bi-elemental bloodlines: Youton and Futton which come from combining the elements of earth, fire and water. Not only does Naruto not possess a bloodline limit himself, Naruto's primary elemental affinity is wind and he has not been shown to have a secondary as of it. This greatly diminishes the probablity of the Mizukage being related to Naruto in a close fashion. Similarily, the theory that the Godaime Mizukage is in fact Uzumaki Kushina is also unlikely. Whether the theory is that she suffered from amnesia, was forced to return home, or deliberately abandoned her son, the fact is neither Jiraiya nor Tsunade make mention of her possessing a bloodline limit. Something like that is of note, if only to say "too bad Naruto didn't seem to inherit them" when reminicsing as Jiraiya and Tsunade were at the time of the revelation. In conclusion, liklihood of the Mizukage being Kushina is slim to none. Current Conclusions: page last updated: Dec. 06, 2009
