Lisa

Yadomaru Lisa is a young woman who is one of the Vizard. Her zanpaktou has a purple-blue hilt but, thus far, remains unamed, she has also not been seen wearing her mask. Lisa is quick to anger and exciteable, though not to the extent that Hiyori is. She's also sarcastic. It has been shown a number of times now that Lisa is ambidextrous, as she is seen weilding her sword in both her left and right hand. It has also been shown that Lisa is also very flexible, athletic, and has a remarkable sense of balance. During her battle with Ichigo, to allow him time to battle his inner hollow, Lisa is seen executing a number of flips and high kicks. Most notably, she is seen balancing and spinning on one hand, her zanpaktou in the other, while dealing viscious kicks to Ichigo in rapid succsion.

With the publication of chapter -108 (316) entitled "Turn Back the Pendulum" we see that several of the current Vizard held high-ranking positions amongst the Gotei 13, among them is Lisa.

A century prior to the start of the current storyline, Lisa was the Vice Captain of the powerful 8th Division under Kyouraku Shunsui. At first glance, one might assume that the Vice Captain by his side, and the one "dragging him by the short hairs" to ensure that he makes it on time to Urahara's commemoration is Ise Nanao. However, a closer looks proves that this is in fact Lisa standing by his side!

If the comment about "short hairs" doesn't clue you in to the fact that this is not Nanao, then Lisa's trademark glasses coupled with the fact that her shinigami uniform is designed suspiciously like a sailor fuku uniform will. As you can see in the images to your left and below, Lisa's appearance a century ago is slightly, but none the less significantly, different from the one she sports in present times. Unlike Kyouraku, who looks fairly unchanged.

Lisa's uniform is definately amongst the most unique of the shinigami, past and present. Instead of the traditional uniform with minor alterations and additions, as other shinigami do, Lisa has replaced the bottom half of her uniform with a black sailor fuku skirt and wears a black blouse beanth her top. I'm certain the skirt drives her Captain crazy. Lisa's hairstyle also differs slightly. Instead of the long single braid, Lisa has her hair pulled back in two braided pigtails and wears her bangs parted to one side.

Like her successor Nanao, Lisa is seen accompanying Shunsui and carrying literature. I highly suspect though, that her "literature" might very well be the josei manga she is so very found of currently.

So the 8th Division was lead by Shunsui and Lisa. That had to be an interesting time. Shunsui the womanizer and drunkard with Lisa the porn lover as his vice captain! Oh the hilarity! From the sound of it, you just know that Lisa never pulled her punches when it came to putting Shunsui in his place. And now that brings up an interesting point.

Now, I have always been a big fan of the relationship between Nanao and Shunsui, but after seeing this chapter I can't help but to wonder if Nanao is a sort of replacement for Lisa in Shunsui's eyes. For all of his teasing and chasing after Nanao, it's highly suspicious that the woman that succeeds Lisa (Nanao) looks so much like her, and although less "vulgar" (for lack of a better word) has a similar disposition as her. Is Nanao truly Lisa's "replacement"? Is it possible Shunsui just has a thing for dark haired beauties who wear glasses and will put him in his place? Are they perhaps accessories to him? This really has to make you wonder.
