In an effort to minimize spoilers I have broken the shrine into different sections. This means that this primary biography page will attempt to be spoiler-free for those who have not seen the anime in it's entirety or who are not up to date with the manga as released irregularly in Japan. Deneve first appears in chapter twenty-five, volume five of the manga and episode nine of the anime. Deneve, along with Miria and Helen, have been tasked with hunting and Awakened Being in the mountains and are awaiting Clare's arrival in a nearby town. Deneve is a very calm and level-headed warrior, always able to keep her eyes focused on the goal even when surrounded by impossible odds.
Like many other Claymores, Deneve is the survivor of a Yoma attack. When she was a child a Yoma attacked her family and slaughtered them. In an attempt to protect her, Deneve's older sister hid her under the bed and subsequently distracted the Yoma by sacrificing herself. The strong smell of blood and intestines in the house masked Deneve's presence so the Yoma never realized she was there. Unable to do anything, all Deneve could do was lie there in hiding and watch her sister be torn apart.
Deneve swore to take revenge for her sister and soon joined the Organization. However, as time passed Deneve realized that while her heart burned for revenge she clung for life tenaciously which resulted in her becoming a Defensive warrior, one who is able to regenerate lost limbs, rather than an Offensive warrior. Deneve felt that this was an act of cowardice and a betrayal to her sister who gave her life for her until a fellow warrior (Helen) pointed (more like screamed) out the idiocy of such a belief by stating that all people want to live, there was nothing wrong becoming an Offensive type.
Deneve's closest friend, and one whom she joined the Organization with around the same time is Helen. The companionship that these two share seems very odd, given that their personalities are polar opposites of each other, doubly so when it is revealed that Deneve does not get along well with other Claymores. However one can easily see that Helen and Devneve help to balance each other out. Helen's cheerful attitude helps to draw out Deneve's more relaxed side and likewise, whenever Helen's trouble causing antics go too far Deneve is there to watch her back.
