Why: In the beginning I was a humongous SasuNaru fan. From the beginning you could see the chemistry between the two, and it only grew more pronounced after the trip to wave country. As time passed I thought NejiNaru and GaaNaru had a lot of potential as well, but the problem with these pairings is that Naruto had to bend over backwards to gain just their attention, let alone their respect. Sai is different in that aspect, automatically he took an interest in Naruto. Naruto's personality, Naruto himself drew Sai in like a moth to a flame. It was because of Naruto that Sai decided to change on his own. You can safely say that Sai wanted to change himself for Naruto's sake. You cannot say that about any of the other popular pairings except for NaruHina.
Over all I think that Naruto and Sai share many traits and they settled into an easy and friendly camaraderie sooner than it took Gaara, Neji, or Sasuke. Already the tease and cajole each other and have begun to aide and support one another in their endeavors.

Why: Sai has only been in the series for a short time, but I'm already
obsessed. He becomes a dynamic influence before he even meets Naruto. Like all of
Kishimoto's characters, his personality and experience show a depth and breadth
unrivaled in most series. I love getting to play with him in fan fic, because his
stunted social growth is a wonderful medium through which I can examine emotions.
After Sai truly smiles, he bonds with Naruto. Even when the trio (Naru/Saku/Yama)
later suspects Sai of betrayal, Naruto defends him immediately. Their relationship
is fresh, but it promises to develop into something rich. I see Sai as bonding with
other characters, but Naruto will always be a special person to him. After all, the
blond gave him back his humanity. I have always adored Naruto for the infectious
way he changes people.
